This Little Light of Mine
PiSAT Solar has teamed up with the Koinonia Foundation to provide K−Lights to villages across Africa, replacing the dangerous kerosene lanterns commonly used on a continent where 75 percent of homes have no electricity.

Kerosene lanterns can pose a fire hazard, pollute the environment and create dangerous, toxic fumes. Kerosene fuel is also expensive, with the closest fuel source usually miles away. The K−Light was originally designed to be a safe, inexpensive alternative for these villages.

Together with the Koinonia Foundation, PiSAT is bringing the K−Light to Africa through the Koinonia Foundation's Beacon program, where groups of African women are given a start-up “grant” of K−Lights. With the 100% of the proceeds from the initial sale, they are able to purchase and sell more K−Lights (at a greatly reduced cost), establishing a local business that provides an ongoing and sustainable, local source of income.

Through the Koinonia Foundation’s Beacon Program, African women are becoming empowered, spurring economic activity, while providing their villages with a source of clean, lasting light.

For every K−Light sold commercially, PiSAT Solar donates a portion of the proceeds to the Koinonia Foundation.
